Keprom allocates funds for the purchase of restraint systems for the safe transport of children in EMS vehicles

Friday, 22 July 2016

In the period from June 15th to September 15th, as part of the "Safety is never on vacation" campaign, Keprom will be collecting funds for the procurement of much needed restraints for the safe transport of children in the vehicles of the Emergency Medical Service. The initiative is also supported by the Road Traffic Safety Committee, which will organize training for the health care professionals on the correct use of these systems.

As part of the campaign, Keprom will allocate RSD 100 from every sale of a child car seat of the Chicco, Britax Römer or Cybex brands. The collected amount will be used for the purchase of restraint systems for Emergency Medical Services in the cities where retail facilities of Aksa Kids Mega Store are located, i.e., in Belgrade, Novi Sad, Kragujevac, Čačak, Niš, Šabac, Kruševac, and Zrenjanin, as well as in Sremska Mitrovica.

The EMS vehicles in Serbia are still not equipped with special restraint systems for the safe transport of children, and having in mind that, due to the nature of their work, they are often involved in traffic accidents, the lives of the children they transport can be in danger. In late 2011, Serbia was deeply shocked by the case of a six-month-old baby, who suffered severe injuries in an EMS vehicle when the nurse holding her dropped the baby from her arms. That was the first time that the public raised the issue of safety systems for the transport of children in emergency vehicles.
